What is the Hokkaido Northside tour?

Hokkaido Northside is our guided backcountry ski and snowboard tour based in Kamikawa, on the north side of Daisetsuzan National Park in Hokkaido, Japan. You stay six nights at our Kamikawa lodge and spend five days touring with our guides, with a daily onsen visit after skiing.

Where do we ski on the Kamikawa backcountry tour?

We ride Kurodake, Asahidake and lesser-known mountains around Kamikawa. Each day's zone is chosen from the weather, snowpack and avalanche forecast.

Who is the Kamikawa tour for?

Kamikawa has steeper terrain, longer descents and a more remote feel than Furano, so this tour suits experienced backcountry skiers and splitboarders. If you are new to touring, our Beginner Backcountry Course is the better place to start.

What is included in the Kamikawa tour?

The tour includes six nights in our lodge in shared rooms for two guests, five days of guided backcountry skiing or splitboarding, daily breakfast, a daily onsen visit, Asahikawa Airport pick-up and drop-off, and all local transport. Flights, dinners, lunches on touring days, onsen entrance fees, lift tickets, alcoholic drinks and travel insurance are not included.

How big are the groups?

Groups are small: a maximum of four guests per guide, or six guests with two guides. Groups are matched by ability so the pace works for everyone.

Do I need my own backcountry gear?

You can bring your own touring setup or rent from us. We rent touring ski sets, splitboard sets and avalanche safety gear, and every guest rides with a beacon, shovel and probe.

How do I get to Kamikawa for the tour?

Fly into Asahikawa Airport. We pick you up there after 14:00 on arrival day and drop you back at around 08:00 on departure day.
